During the original run of Monster High, the dolls were made in China or Indonesia. Where the doll was made can tell you many things about the doll. For example, why is Robecca only sometimes double jointed? It’s a China vs. Indonesia thing! Keep reading to find out what kind of differences this makes for each character. Draculaura:
The doll that has the biggest variations between her Indonesian releases and her China releases, in my opinion, is Draculaura. Indonesian Draculaura dolls have larger eyes, while the China dolls have smaller, more slanted ones. Here is a picture of both versions of Creepateria Draculaura to demonstrate:

Indonesia Draculaura
Frankie Stein:
Next, let’s look at Frankie Stein. She actually does not have many China versions… at least in comparison to her number of Indonesian releases. Her China versions are more green with smaller heads, while her Indonesian releases are larger and more teal. Here is an example:

Indonesia Frankie
Clawdeen Wolf:
Clawdeen Wolf also has less China versions than Indonesian versions. I was really surprised to discover that almost all my favorite Clawdeen dolls were made in China. As is typical with Indonesian Monster High dolls, Clawdeen dolls made in Indonesia have larger heads and eyes. The ones made from China have more angular eyes. Here is an example using both versions of Boo York Clawdeen:
China Clawdeen
Indonesia Clawdeen
Cleo De Nile:
Cleo also has more versions that were made in Indonesia. The Cleo dolls made in China have more angled eyes, smaller heads, and paler skin. Pictured below are the two different versions of Creepateria Cleo de Nile.

Lagoona Blue:
Lagoona’s story is pretty typical. Her Indonesian dolls have larger eyes and her China versions have smaller ones. Here is an example showing both her Wheel Love versions:

Ghoulia Yelps:
Ghoulia’s story is also pretty typical. Her Indonesian dolls have larger heads and her China versions have smaller ones. Here is an example using Skull Shores Ghoulia:

Now that I have covered the main Ghouls, let’s move on to some of the other characters.
Spectra Vondergeist:
Spectra has a huge difference between her Indonesian dolls and her China dolls. Her China dolls have larger eyes and sharper cheek bones. Here is an example using both versions of Ghoul Sports Spectra:
China
Indonesia
Rochelle Goyle:
Rochelle was mostly made in Indonesia, but she had a few China releases (Haunted and Dance Class, for example). Based on those two dolls, her eyes are more widely spaced and rounder if she is made in China.

Robecca Steam:
The differences between a China Robecca and an Indonesian Robecca are subtle. The most notable difference is that Indonesian Robecca dolls have double-jointed knees. Most of the Robecca releases were made in China. The China versions are less dark and have slightly smaller eyes.

Operetta:
Operetta is a doll where I see larger differences based on where she was made. Operetta has a larger head and larger eyes in her Indonesian releases. Her body is also a darker purple shade than her China releases.

Abbey Bominable:
Abbey has a more pronounced jaw on her Indonesian releases. Just try and make her look down. You can’t! Her head does not go that way! Her Indonesian dolls are also a much more purple-blue. The China releases are more often discolored and kind of yellowed. Here are both versions of Signature Abbey Bominable for example:

Indonesia
Catrine DeMew:
Most Catrine releases were made in Indonesia, but her Gloom and Bloom release was made in China. This version is a brighter white and has a narrower face.

Venus McFlytrap:
I don’t really see any differences between a China Venus and an Indonesian Venus, but maybe you do!

Gil Webber:
Gil’s eyes are smaller on his China releases. They also look more directly at you. Here are both versions of Wheel Love Gil for example:

Indonesia
Howleen Wolf:
Howleen dolls that were made in Indonesia have slightly larger eyes than those made in China.

Scarah Screams:
The Scarah dolls that were made in Indonesia have larger jaws and their heads are more difficult to move. The Indonesian dolls also have a more mint color to their skin, while the China dolls are more green. Here are both versions of Ghoul Fair Scarah for example:

Toralei Stripe:
When Toralei is made in China, she has a narrower head and smaller eyes. Here are both versions of Ghoul Sports Toralei for example:
China
Indonesia
Holt Hyde:
Holt’s original release was made in Indonesia but when his Signature doll was released a second time he was made in China. This version has bluer lips and crisper paint on his tattoo. Here are both versions of Signature Holt Hyde for example:
China
Indonesia
C.A. Cupid:
C.A. Cupid only had two releases in the Monster High line before her character transferred to Ever After High. Her releases were essentially identical except that one was made in China (Signature) and the other was made in Indonesia (Sweet 1600). Her Indonesia release has larger eyes and her hair was more styled.

Heath Burns:
Heath also has the typical story. His Indonesia version has a larger head, is darker in color, and has more rounded eyes. For example, here are both versions of Ghoul Fair Heath Burns:
