This doll was manufactured in China or Malaysia and there are visible differences between the two variations – most notably, the Malaysian version has a “greasier” looking head.
Ken’s earring caused a bit of a controversy regarding what ear it was in and what it may or not have suggested about his inclinations. This led to a pretty unsuccessful recall (unsuccessful in the sense that he remained and remains readily available). Fast forward to 2019, and we got BMR Ken with nary a recall in sight.
