These dolls were released at the 1985 Barbie National Convention, which took place at the Hilton Airport Inn in Romulus, Michigan. The Japanese Barbie doll was provided by Mattel, whereas the hosting Barbie club provided the Takara Kimono Barbie from Japan (with a convention sticker on the box).
