These dolls were created for and released at the 1983 Barbie National Convention (Barbie’s Pow Wow), which took place at the Valley of the Sun Complex & Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The Pow Wow Pioneer doll was provided by Mattel, whereas the hosting Barbie club (The Barbie Buddy Club) created the Pow Wow Steffie dolls and the Chief centerpiece dolls.
