The African American Teen Talk doll comes in two hair variations: Auburn Crimp and Dark Curl. Due to the volume of Teen Talk dolls, this page is dedicated to the variations with Dark Curl. The Auburn Crimp dolls share the same stock number as the Dark Curl variation (#1612), but they are featured on their own page.
As the name implies, Teen Talk dolls are talking dolls and each doll can say four phrases about school, shopping, parties, and activities (out of a sample of 270 possible phrases). Unfortunately, one of those phrases was “Math class is tough,” which was controversial and led to a bit of a recall / manufacturer exchange situation.
The African American Teen Talk dolls come in four different outfits, two different hair styles, and two different faces. The Dark Curl variation comes in both faces (Green-Eyed and Purple-Eyed) and three of the outfits: the black outfit, the pink outfit, and the blue outfit (not the teal outfit). Both face variations appear in all three outfit variations, so there are a total of six Dark Curl dolls. All Teen Talk dolls were made in China.
