The African American Teen Talk doll comes in two hair variations: Auburn Crimp and Dark Curl. Due to the volume of Teen Talk dolls, this page is dedicated to the variations with Auburn Crimp. The Dark Curl dolls share the same stock number as the Auburn Crimp variation (#1612), but they are featured on their own page.
As the name implies, Teen Talk dolls are talking dolls and each doll can say four phrases about school, shopping, parties, and activities (out of a sample of 270 possible phrases). Unfortunately, one of those phrases was “Math class is tough,” which was controversial and led to a bit of a recall / manufacturer exchange situation.
The African American Teen Talk dolls come in four different outfits, two different hair styles, and two different faces. The Auburn Crimp variation comes in both faces (Green-Eyed and Purple-Eyed) and three of the outfits: the black outfit, the pink outfit, and the teal outfit (not the blue outfit). Both face variations appear in all three outfit variations, so there are a total of six Auburn-Crimp dolls.
