The Teen Talk series was copyrighted and released in 1991. The Caucasian dolls in this series debut the Teen Talk head mold (which has thus far seen only limited use outside of this line). As the name implies, Teen Talk dolls are talking dolls and each doll can say four phrases about school, shopping, parties, and activities (out of a sample of 270 possible phrases). Unfortunately, one of those phrases was “Math class is tough,” which was controversial and led to a bit of a recall / manufacturer exchange situation.
The Teen Talk dolls come in five different hair colors, and that is how they will be grouped for this page (it should by noted, however, that all the Caucasian dolls share the same stock number and all the African American dolls share the same stock number). They could come in four different Caucasian faces, two African American faces, four outfits, and up to four hairdos (on the blonde dolls). As a result of these mix and match characteristics, there are a vast number of possible doll combinations in the Teen Talk line (we count 108: 64 blonde, 16 redhead, 16 brunette, and 12 African American).
